Assistant Professor Gholnecsar Muhammad was named the 2016 recipient of the Janet Emig Award, which recognizes researchers studying English teacher education.
Georgia State University hosted 25 social studies teachers for a two-week summer institute titled: Courting Liberty: Slavery and Equality under the Constitution. Teachers also toured Charleston, South Carolina as they studied the effects of pre-Civil War laws on equality.
Dr. Chara Haeussler Bohan and Dr. H. Robert Baker co-directed the institute.

Gholnecsar Muhammad hosts Black Youth Write, a NCTE-funded workshop bringing local students to campus to practice their writing skills and explore issues facing black youth today.
